Notable Case: $1.2 Million Truck Accident Jury Verdict Near Iron Mountain
One of our most impactful cases involved a trucking accident that occurred just outside Iron Mountain, at the intersection of Old 69 Road by the Randville Bar along M-95. Our client was struck on the right side by a logging truck whose driver was distracted—on his cell phone and not paying attention to the road. The truck swerved into our client’s lane, causing a violent collision.
As a result of the crash, our client suffered a mild traumatic brain injury and cervical spine instability (neck laxity). She had to undergo extensive medical care, including vision therapy, prism glasses, chiropractic treatment, and physical therapy, and she continues to struggle with symptoms related to her brain injury.
Despite her medical needs, her own no-fault insurance company refused to pay for necessary treatment. We filed a first-party lawsuit against the insurer and a third-party negligence lawsuit against the logging truck driver and his employer.
The truck case proceeded to a jury trial, and the jury returned a $1.2 million verdict in favor of our client. The verdict was a powerful acknowledgment of her suffering and the truck driver’s negligence.
Following the trucking verdict, her no-fault insurer chose to settle the first-party lawsuit, rather than face trial. This case stands as a testament to our willingness to take tough cases to court and win.
